Vision: A just, equitable, and prosperous society where every individual—regardless of gender, age, or background—lives with dignity, opportunity, and resilience.
Mission: To empower marginalized communities in Ethiopia through integrated, sustainable development programs that address poverty, inequality, and humanitarian need.
RYYL (Raey Yetekenaje Yemahibereseb Limat Dirjit) is an Ethiopian civil society organization dedicated to the holistic development of communities facing poverty, discrimination, and humanitarian crises. Founded on the conviction that sustainable change must come from within communities themselves, RYYL works alongside local leaders, government partners, and international allies to design and deliver programs that address root causes—not symptoms.
We operate across rural and peri-urban areas of Ethiopia, with deep experience navigating the country's diverse agro-ecological zones, cultural landscapes, and development challenges. Our staff are drawn predominantly from the communities we serve, ensuring cultural competence, local trust, and accountability at every level.
To contribute to the sustainable improvement of the well-being, rights, and resilience of vulnerable and marginalized communities in Ethiopia through integrated programs in agriculture, health, WASH, education, gender equity, and emergency response.
Five integrated program areas address the interconnected dimensions of poverty, inequality, and vulnerability in Ethiopian communities.
Promoting sustainable farming practices, soil and water conservation, and climate-resilient livelihoods to strengthen food security and protect natural resources across rural communities.
Expanding access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services while delivering community health education, maternal and child nutrition support, and disease prevention programs.
Challenging harmful social norms, supporting survivors of gender-based violence, and fostering the economic and civic participation of women, girls, and marginalized groups.
Improving access to quality education, safeguarding children from exploitation and abuse, and building child-friendly learning environments that nurture the next generation.
Delivering timely humanitarian assistance—food, shelter, health care, and protection—to communities affected by conflict, drought, flooding, and other crises.
Every program begins with community consultations. We co-design interventions with local beneficiaries, ensuring relevance, ownership, and sustainability from the outset.
Rather than siloed sectoral work, RYYL delivers multi-sectoral programs that address the interlinked causes of poverty—health, nutrition, water, livelihoods, and education together.
We ground all activities in international human rights standards, centering the dignity, agency, and entitlements of every individual we serve.
Robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems enable RYYL to adapt programs in real time and share evidence with the broader development community.
Gender analysis and women's empowerment are woven across all programs—ensuring that no one is left behind.
We invest in strengthening the technical and organizational capacities of local institutions, government bodies, and community groups for long-term impact.
We act with transparency, accountability, and honesty in all that we do.
Communities are at the heart of every decision, design, and outcome.
We prioritize the most vulnerable and champion social justice for all.
Our interventions build lasting change rooted in local ownership.
We forge partnerships that amplify impact across sectors and borders.
We adapt, learn, and apply evidence-based solutions to complex challenges.
RYYL primarily operates across rural and semi-urban regions of Ethiopia, with targeted interventions in areas facing acute food insecurity, humanitarian need, or high rates of gender-based violence and child vulnerability.
We work in close collaboration with federal and regional government bodies, local community-based organizations, UN agencies (UNICEF, UNHCR, WFP, WHO), bilateral donors, and international NGO networks. These partnerships amplify reach, leverage complementary expertise, and ensure programs align with Ethiopia's national development priorities.
